PhD student Cheng Por Eng successfully defended his doctoral thesis

Attending and witnessing the Thesis Defense Ceremony, there were Counsellor of Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Vietnam Mr. Op Sophy, Representative of UTC Leaders Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong and many scientists from universities, institutes and UTC.

As a foreign student from Cambodia, after graduating the master course at the UTC in 2013, Mr. Cheng Por Eng started following the PhD course and conducted the thesis with the title “Study on bending behavior of FRP reinforced concrete beams for bridge construction in Cambodia”. This thesis belongs to the discipline of Special Construction Engineering, code 62580206, being supervised by two lecturers of UTC Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Trung and Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Trinh. The research has been conducted the persistence of Mr. Cheng Por Eng. During his study, many experiments have been conducted at the Vilas 047 laboratory of University of Transport and Communications.

The Thesis Committee highly appreciated his passion for research, being hard-working, ability of presenting the thesis in Vietnamese fluently and scientific content of the thesis, especially for a foreign student like him. The research results will open a new direction of application of FRP technology to replace reinforced concrete in the severe weather conditions, near the sea, high corrosion resistance, used in bridge construction in Cambodia.
