Awarding ceremony of the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Prof. Hideyuki Murata, Japan

In the morning of May 2nd 2019, the Awarding Ceremony of the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Prof. Hideyuki Murata from Japan for his great contribution to the educational cause of Vietnam in general and the educational development of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) in particular was solemnly held at UTC.

Attending the ceremony included about 80 participants from different agencies such as Ministry of Education and Training; Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Leaders, professors, lecturers and students of UTC. Especially, the ceremony was also honored to receive the presence of Mrs. Murata – spouse of Prof. Murata.

At the proposal of University of Transport and Communications, the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam issued the Decision No. 5519/QD-BGDDT dated 25/12/2018 on awarding the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Prof. Hideyuki Murata for his contribution to Vietnamese education. This is not only a noble reward for Prof. Murata but also an honor for University of Transport and Communications, proving the attention of the university to the international cooperation activities in the past years.

Professor Hideyuki Murata was born in 1963, currently working at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) as the Dean of the School of Materials Science. He had many years of working in the United Kingdom and the United States as a researcher and university professor. With research expertise on OLED (organic light-emitting diode), Solar cell (solar battery), OFET (organic transistor), SHM sensors (sensors for observation of organic materials), Professor Murata contributed 132 international ISI-index scientific articles, 71 presentations at international scientific conferences, received many awards from Japan and internationally. For Vietnam, from 2007 up to now, Professor has contributed positively to the cause of education and training and research, has guided 4 PhD students and 2 graduate students, including 2 PhD students of the University of Transport and Communications, guided 5 interns under the student exchange cooperation program, including 01 UTC’s student, published 24 scientific articles with the Vietnamese partner, of which there are 23 articles collaborated with UTC with 12 international ISI-index articles. He also conducted many lectures on the subjects of Organic Electronics, Organic and inorganic materials for advanced electronic components, Nanotechnology, nanostructured materials for students of UTC and other universities. In particular, Professor has made great contributions to bringing OLED into the electronics industry, being applied by LG and Samsung, and being manufactured in Vietnam, contributing to Vietnam's economic growth.

His contributions to the education of Vietnam and University of Transport and Communications is very remarkable. It is hoped to continue receiving active and effective cooperation with Professor in the coming years to promote good cooperation between the University of Transport and Communications and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and to be a bridge for the friendship between the people of Vietnam and Japan.
