The Conference “Application of Advanced Steel Technology for the Railway Development of Vietnam” was held successfully

The conference was held in the morning of December 14, 2018 at the University of Transport and Communications with the co-organization of three units namely University of Transport and Communications, Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation of Japan and Transport Engineering Design Inc.- TEDI. Attending the conference were 120 participants from agencies, enterprises, universities, research institutes related to railway transport field. The conference also received the attention of the Leader of Ministry of Transport. H.E Deputy Minister Nguyen Nhat attended and delivered a speech at the conference.

The conference has been organized in the period that the urban railway lines in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are being constructed and prepared to be put into operation; the North-South high speed railway project is in the process of finalizing the pre-feasibility study report which attracts the attention of agencies and every citizen. Many scientific papers with high specialization were presented at the conference, mentioning the application of steel structures for the construction and development of railway in Europe, Japan and considering the applicability in Vietnam. Steel products of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation of Japan have been widely applied in construction projects in Vietnam and have a competitive advantage with other products for these large projects. Many participants' questions raised in the conference and the answers of scientists and managers to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of steel structure in high-speed railway construction, its impact on the efficiency of exploitation, investment cost and aesthetics of the project proved the interest of scientists and participants to the success of the railway system development projects in Vietnam. On behalf of TEDI who is responsible for the preparation of the pre-feasibility study report of the North-South high-speed railway project, the General Director Mr. Pham Huu Son shared his views with the conference that TEDI studied, calculated to apply advanced technology to this project to be able to compete with other types of transport, ensuring the efficiency, long-term sustainable development, not lagging behind, contributing to the country's socio-economic development.

The workshop was successfully organized with the contribution of many scientists, the careful preparation of the University of Transport and Communications and the co-organizers, bringing valuable science information for participants.
