In the morning of March 8th 2017, the Conferment Ceremony of Honorary Doctor Degree for HE Bounchanh Sinthavong – Member of Party Central Commitee, Minister of Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR was held at the University of Transport and Communications.
Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thi Nghia; Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho; Many representatives from departments, institutes of Vietnam and his wife and the 25-person delegation from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR. On the side of the UTC, there was Rector Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long along with all staff and lecturers attending.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tho, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Laos is the special traditional friendship which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane and now continues to be cultivated by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries. Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tho congratulated Minister Bounchanh Sinthavong, an excellent individual in Lao PDR's Ministry of Public Works and Transport, who has contributed to the success of many Vietnam - Laos joint projects and collaborations.
On behalf of the leaders of the UTC, Rector Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long affirmed that, from the beginning of its establishment, UTC has always welcomed and tried its best to train many generations of excellent students and individuals from Laos. UTC also regularly organizes training courses, sends experienced professors, scientists and lecturers to Laos for teaching master and engineering courses. Many Lao students after graduating from the UTC have matured, considerably contributing to the development of Laos. HE Bounchanh Sinthavong who used to be a student in Vietnam is an outstanding mirror of Lao intellectuals and scientists. On his working positions, especially as the Minister of Public Works and Transport of Lao PDR, he has personally directed and is considered the "Chief Architects" of the Transport Cooperation Strategy for five-year period 2016-2020 between Vietnam and Laos. He also devoted to the development of training cooperation between UTC and the National University of Laos. To acknowledge the great contributions of HE Bounchanh Sinthavong and by the consent of the Ministry of Education and Training; the Science and Education Council of the UTC has decided to confer the Honorary Doctor Degree to the Minister Bounchanh Sinthavong.
