Holding online graduation thesis defence ceremony for students who are doing internship in France

On June 23rd 2020, the University of Transport and Communications in collaboration with Grenoble INP – France held the online graduation thesis defence ceremony for students who are doing internship and writing thesis in France within the student exchange program between two universities. This is one of many annual student exchange activities that UTC has implemented with prestigious partners in the world. However, this is the first time an online graduation thesis defence ceremony using video conference was jointly held with the participation of domestic and foreign lecturers.

The international assessment committee included the following members: Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nhu, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Ban, Dr. Vu Van Tan from Mechanical Engineering Faculty – UTC; Prof. Olivier Sename and Prof. Luc Dugard from Grenoble INP. The defence ceremony also had the presence of the representative of Autoneway JSC -  the companion and sponsor of a part of the scholarship for students’ internship, Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hien – Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Mrs. Bui Thi Giang – Deputy Director of Department of International Cooperation and Development Studies, lecturers of Mechanical Engineering Faculty and over 50 students who are following Talented engineer program in Automotive engineering.

In the defence ceremony, two students – Do Trong Tu, Automotive engineering 2 class, Course 57 and Pham Quoc Trung, Public Transport Mechanics class, Course 57 – presented their thesis in English in 90 minutes. The committee’s members highly appreciated the ideas, study content and results of two students and agreed to give them the highest grade 10/10. This result as well as the outstanding progress of two students is the proof for the appreciation of Grenoble INP’s colleagues to the educational quality of UTC.

During the past years, the cooperative relationship between two universities has been established and developed through various activities such as co-organization of international workshops in Vietnam, implementation of joint research projects funded by the Embassy of France, exchange of students for internship and writing graduation thesis. Professor Olivier Sename highly appreciated the study and research capacity of UTC’s students and expressed his hope that two sides would continue to expand cooperation at all levels such as research projects, student exchanges at Masters and PhD levels, co-supervising the PhD thesis ...

Following the success of this year's student exchange program, Grenoble INP decided to continue providing scholarships to two other students of the University of Transport and Communications to study and conduct graduation thesis in early 2021 at Grenoble INP. The graduation thesis defence ceremony ended in the joyful atmosphere of both professors and students, opening up many opportunities and prospects for new cooperation programs in the near future.
