UTC’s Leaders paid a working visit to Russia and Hungary

The high-level visit of our Party - State led by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong to the Russian Federation and Hungary to promote effective and comprehensive cooperation with these two countries has marked an important milestone in the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation and Hungary. On this occasion, the delegation of University of Transport and Communications (UTC) led by the Rector Nguyen Ngoc Long and Vice Rector Nguyen Duy Viet joined the delegation in Russia and Hungary from 4 – 13 September, 2018.

In the Russian Federation from 4-8 September 2018, the delegation attended the meeting between the Minister of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Leaders of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, attending the forum of Rectors of Vietnamese and Russian Federation universities. There were 40 rectors of Vietnamese and Russian Federation universities attending the forum, which was an important event in the promotion of the higher education cooperation between the two countries.

At the forum, Leaders of Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training and leaders of Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation witnessed 23 cooperation agreements signed between universities. The UTC signed the cooperation agreement with two traditional partners: Russian University of Transport (RUT - MIIT) (formerly known as the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering) and the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI).

During the business trip, the delegation paid a visit to the RUT - MIIT and MADI.

At the RUT - MIIT, a traditional partner of the UTC, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Rector of RUT-MIIT Prof. Academic Boris A. Levin and Deputy Rector of international cooperation Vladimir N. Glazkov and the head of the International Cooperation Department.

Both leaders affirmed it was necessary to further strengthen the cooperation to match the good traditional cooperation between the two universities, especially focusing on the bilateral cooperation program. The highlight of which will be the year 2019 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on the Fundamental Principles of the Vietnam - Russian Federation Friendship Relations pursuant to the initiative by President of Russian Federation V.V. Putin and to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries by 2020. In the immediate future, the two sides coordinate to training staff at different levels for the urban railway system field, North-South railway, high speed railway, Vung Tau - Binh Phuoc port railway within the agreement signed between Vietnam and Russian Federation as well as to strengthen the cooperation in scientific research, lecturer and student exchange between two universities.

At the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI), a close traditional partner of the UTC, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the Acting Rector Gennady V. Kustarev; Deputy Rectors of International cooperation, scientific technology, training; Former Deputy Rector V. Silyanov; heads of departments and functional units.

At the meeting, the two sides confirmed the achievement of cooperative activities in the past years such as joint research on the pavement rutting on asphalt concrete road; collaboration of editing the Vietnamese-Russian-English technical dictionary in the field of road and tunnel; maintenance of the publication of the Science Journal of Transportation ISSN 2410-9088.v.v. from 2008 to now. These cooperative activities have been highly appreciated.

In the coming years, the two universities agree to strengthen the effective implementation of cooperation activities, focusing on research topics related to Intelligent Transportation Systems ITS; Intelligent Cities in the environment of technological revolution 4.0; Issues of concern in the transport sector such as the phenomenon of asphalt sliding on the deck; collaboration in researching, designing and manufacturing equipment for testing road surface structure applied for North-South expressway and other routes in Vietnam; collaboration in education, exchange of lecturers, students, etc.

Finishing the good working visit in Russian Federation, the delegation traveled to Hungary to attend the 2nd Vietnam-Hungary Universities’ Rector Conference held in Budapest. The conference was honored to welcome General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary Mihály Varga, Leader of Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, Leader of Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources and representatives of 50 universities in Vietnam and Hungary attending the conference.

The expansion of cooperation with partners in Hungary has been attended by many Vietnamese universities. At the conference, 15 cooperation agreements were signed by two countries’ universities in the presence of leaders of the Party and Government of the two States, Leader of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and Leader of the Hungarian Ministry of Human Resources. The University of Transport and Communications signed MoU with two universities of Hungary. The first one is Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and the second one is University of Miskolc. The cooperation development between UTC and Hungarian universities is an opportunity for faculty members and students to study in Hungary by scholarships from the Vietnam-Hungary Convention and other scholarships as well as to implement the cooperative activities in education and research in the coming years.

 

The visit of the delegation to the Russian Federation and Hungary was a success. Again, it not only confirmed the important role and position of the university in the system of universities in Vietnam but also confirmed the prestige of the university in international cooperation in general and partner universities in particular in the Russian Federation and Hungary.
