On September 14th 2017, the Ceremony of Awarding the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Professor Manfred Boltze from Darmstadt University of Technology (TU Darmstadt), Germany took place solemnly in UTC.

At the proposal of the UTC, Minister of Education and Training decided to award the Medal “For the Cause of Education” to Prof. Boltze. This is the noble award of the education sector to honor foreign professors who have great contribution to the education of Vietnam. Attending the ceremony was the presence of Dr. Nguyen Xuan Vang- Director General of International Education Cooperation Department, MOET; Mr. Stephan Hase-Bergen – Head of DAAD Regional Office Hanoi; Dr. Khuat Viet Hung – Permanent Vice President of Vietnam National Transport Safety Committee; representatives of leaders of agencies in the transport sector; Leaders of UTC; lecturers who used to study at TU Darmstadt; and many lecturers and students of UTC.

Professor Manfred Boltze, the leading professor in the field of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering, has been teaching at the Chair of Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering, TU Darmstadt which is one of prestigious universities and has the strength in the field of transport planning. TU Darmstadt is also the traditional partner of the UTC in several past decades. Professor Boltze is a reputational professor with 178 scintific publications, supervising 35 PhD students. He is the initiator of the project to establish Vietnamese-German Transport Research Center headquartered at UTC-Campus in Ho Chi Minh City and was also Executive Director of the Center in the period of 2009-2014. He gave lessons to a 35 master student class and supervised 12 master students to gain master degrees. Up to now, Prof. Boltze successfully supervised 5 PhD students who are lecturers of UTC and is presently supervising 7 Vietnamese PhD students, three of them are lecturers of UTC.  He also participated and gave oral presentations in 10 scientific conferences organized by UTC. His contribution to the development of Vietnam education in general and UTC in particular should be definitely recognized.

At the Ceremony, Professor Boltze expressed his honor and emotion for this noble award as well as sent his great gratitude to Ministry of Education and Training, DAAD and Leaders of UTC. He hopes to continue contributing to education and research to tackle with traffic problems and support to develop the transport system in Vietnam.
