OVERVIEW

After the complete liberation of the South, Vietnam entered a period of building socialism on a national scale, yet transport in the southern provinces was facing severe difficulties. Foreseeing the demand, in 1989, UTC Board of Management and Party Committee proposed to the Ministry of Education and Training the establishment of a new campus in the South. On that basis, the University of Transport and Communications – Campus II (UTC2) was established on April the 27th, 1990 under Decision No. 139/TCCB by the Minister of Education and Training as an important component of the main campus, located on an area of over 16 hectares in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since its establishment, Campus II has put its consistent focus on continuous development and innovation, in which training is always of primary concern. Graduates are growing in quantity and quality and most of them have had jobs suitable to their major. Campus II boasts a wide variety of hallmark disciplines, including: Civil Engineering, Electrical – Electronic Engineering, Transport – Economics and Mechanical Engineering with more than 40 different majors. It now has over 9,000 students, including 6,000 full-time, 2,000 of in-service programs, and 1,200 graduate and research students.

Up to March 2013, Campus II has a total of 170 faculty members, including two associate professors, 11 doctors and 46 masters. The administrative staff of Campus II include: Board of Leaders, 10 functional boards, 8 intersections, one center for practical training and technological transfer in transport and one workshop.

Since its establishment, teachers and administrative staff of Campus II have overcome many difficulties and obstacles to successfully fulfill various duties. In recognition of these achievements, Campus II has been awarded by the Government and Communist Party of Vietnam.
