Preliminary Survey to Assess the Quality of Five Undergraduate Programs and One Master's Program at the University of Transport and Communications

On December 25, 2024, the University of Transport and Communications (UTC), in collaboration with the Center for Education Accreditation of Vietnam National University (VNU-CEA), conducted a preliminary survey to assess the quality of five undergraduate programs and one master's program.

The programs under assessment include five undergraduate programs in Applied Mathematics, Hydraulic Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Engineering, and Economics, along with a master's program in Economic Management.

The assessment session was attended by representatives from VNU's Center for Education Accreditation, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Toan – Deputy Director and Chairman of the VNU Education Quality Accreditation Council, standing member of the Assessor Team; Prof. Dr. Sc. Banh Tien Long – Head of the Assessor Team; and Dr. Hoang Thi Xuan Hoa – Secretary of the Assessor Team.

From UTC, participants included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong – Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Duc – Vice President; Dr. Nguyen Thac Quang – Acting Director of the HCMC Campus; Dr. Vo Truong Son – Deputy Director of the HCMC Campus; and representatives of relevant departments and specialized groups involved in the self-assessment of the six programs.

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Duc – Vice President affirmed that UTC highly values the accreditation process, which reflects the University's responsibility to society. With this spirit, UTC has been a pioneer in accreditation efforts since 2016, being the first institution to achieve accreditation certification. Currently, the University offers 34 training programs, 18 of which have been accredited (12 programs accredited under the National Standards and 6 programs accredited internationally according to AUN standards).

To prepare for the accreditation of the six programs in this round, the University began preparations at the end of 2023. In recent years, to keep pace with emerging technologies, the University has continuously updated and reviewed its curricula, developed programs for high-speed rail human resource training, and was selected by the Government as one of 18 institutions to train personnel for the semiconductor chip industry.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Duc also expressed gratitude to the Center for Education Accreditation under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the experts for their collaboration in the University's accreditation efforts. He hoped that through the accreditation process, recommendations would help the University identify areas for improvement and further enhance its educational quality.

He was delighted to return and witness the changes at the University, from the campus to the facilities.

Since its establishment, the center has conducted assessment for nearly 120 educational institutions and 580 training programs, accounting for approximately one-third of all programs nationwide. With a spirit of collaboration and the support of experienced experts, he hoped the University would coordinate effectively to ensure the best possible preparation for the upcoming formal assessment.

Following discussions and consensus on the official survey program, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the VNU Center for Education Accreditation, the Assessor Team, and UTC.

Before conducting the working session between the Assessor Team and the university's leadership and unit leaders, the Assessor Team worked with the specialized teams responsible for preparing self-assessment reports for six training programs.
