Overview of the ceremony

In his speech at the commemorative meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung - President and Director of the Campus, summarized the 35-year development journey of Campus 2, now the University of Transport and Communications - Campus in Ho Chi Minh City:

On April 27, 1990, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) signed the decision to establish Campus II of the University of Transport and Communications, marking a significant initial step in the strategy of training high-quality human resources for the southern region.

By 2016, the MOET decided to upgrade Campus II to the Ho Chi Minh City Campus of the University of Transport and Communications, marking a significant step forward in organizational model and autonomy capacity, opening a new phase of comprehensive, professional, and integrated development.

"Over the past years, along with the consolidation of the organization, the development of the staff and faculty has always been a concern of the University of Transport and Communications and the Campus. Currently, the Campus has 186 officials, employees, and laborers, including 135 lecturers with 5 Associate Professors and 32 PhDs. The proportion of lecturers with postgraduate qualifications reaches over 91%. This is a valuable resource and a foundation for sustainable development."

Over 35 years of formation and development, the Ho Chi Minh City Campus has become a reputable and distinctive center for training, scientific research, and technology transfer, playing a core role in the University's development strategy in the southern region.

From an initial training program (Transport Economics) with 100 students, the Campus has now expanded to offer 22 undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a scale of nearly 7,000 students and learners. The Campus's training programs are constantly updated and expanded towards multidisciplinary approaches, keeping pace with new development trends such as Intelligent Transportation Engineering, Green Logistics, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, Urban Infrastructure Engineering, High-Speed and Urban Railways, and the semiconductor industry, contributing to expanding academic space and enhancing the competitiveness of learners.

In 2015, the Campus built and operated the TMS integrated software system, digitizing the entire training process.

To date, the Campus has trained more than 27,000 engineers and bachelors, and over 3,200 master's students. Many alumni of the Campus currently hold key positions in management agencies, large enterprises, and international organizations. Along with training, scientific research and technology transfer activities have been very effective and closely linked to practice. Ministry-level and provincial-level research projects, inspection contracts, and technical consulting for key projects such as Ring Road 3, Rach Chiec Bridge, and the Rung Sac - Can Gio route have clearly demonstrated the Campus's capacity and social responsibility. In particular, participation in international projects, research on infrastructure solutions for climate change adaptation, green transportation, and sustainable materials has extended the Campus's reputation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung - President and Director of the Campus delivered a speech.

Entering a new phase of development – an era of national resurgence – the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) continues to affirm its pioneering role as a key national university in the field of engineering and technology, with multidisciplinary and multi-field orientations. With a strategic mission, the University plays a leading role in decoding strategic technologies while training high-quality human resources for key economic and technical sectors, directly serving national key projects.

In that development strategy, the Campus plays a particularly important role. Located in the heart of the southern key economic region – an area with high urbanization rates, a diverse transportation system, and increasing human resource demands – the Campus is not only an extension of the University but also a nucleus for promoting innovation, integration, and sustainable growth. The Campus is oriented to become a specialized training and research center in modern transportation infrastructure, urban engineering, logistics, the semiconductor industry, and digital technology in transportation – fields that are being prioritized for investment by the Government and southern localities, in line with the spirit of the Central Resolution No. 13 and the Politburo Conclusion No. 91. Simultaneously, the Campus acts as a bridge between the University and businesses and local authorities through cooperation in human resource training, applied research, technology transfer, and infrastructure development consulting.

To contribute to enhancing the reputation of the University of Transport and Communications in the region and the world, the Campus needs to focus on implementing several key tasks: Consolidating the organization towards streamlining and efficiency; Promoting internationalization of education; Innovating training programs and methods towards application; Strengthening the connection between scientific research activities and practical production; Gradually modernizing facilities and equipment for practice and experimentation; Improving the quality of learning and teaching conditions, meeting the requirements of international integration and sustainable development in the new context.

Looking back at the 35-year journey, we deeply appreciate the persistent, silent, yet dedicated contributions of generations of officials, lecturers, and staff who have nurtured the growth of the Campus – a place that realizes the aspiration to train high-quality human resources and develop science and technology for the cause of national industrialization and modernization.

In the joy and pride of today's celebration, all officials, lecturers, staff, and students of the Campus pledge to continue promoting the glorious tradition, solidarity, innovation, and creativity, overcoming all difficulties and challenges to build an increasingly developed Campus, worthy of the 80-year tradition of the University of Transport and Communications, and worthy of being a reputable and high-quality training and research institution in the southern region.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc delivered a speech

Speaking at the anniversary rally, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized that, with its central position in the southern key economic region, the Ho Chi Minh City Campus of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC HCMC) has significant potential and plays a crucial role in the innovation chain of the Southeast region. UTC HCMC needs to position itself not only as a training institution but also as an important link in the regional innovation ecosystem – a place connecting the state, universities, businesses, and scientists.

"The Campus needs to promote its role as a focal point for organizing academic forums, international conferences, and applied research centers in strategic fields such as smart urban transportation, sustainable transport technology, advanced construction engineering, new materials, digital technology in logistics and infrastructure operation, etc.," Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc stressed.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc also proposed that, in the coming time, UTC HCMC continue to improve the quality of training towards a learner-centered approach, strengthen practical training, technology, and soft skills, and expand training programs aligned with socio-economic development needs.

In particular, the Campus needs to focus on training human resources for priority areas such as green infrastructure, logistics, smart transportation, digital technology, and smart urban management.

Along with that, it is necessary to proactively engage in international integration and connect with businesses, develop international joint training programs; promote business cooperation to organize demand-driven training, and develop a startup and innovation ecosystem.

In addition, the Campus should continue to develop high-quality faculty, promote doctoral training, effectively participate in Project 89, and attract and retain talent. At the same time, it should promote digital transformation, develop online training platforms and shared digital courses; manage with data; and digitize management and training processes towards modernity, efficiency, and transparency.

Especially, the Ho Chi Minh City Campus of the University of Transport and Communications needs to participate more deeply in national and local tasks, proactively propose and implement research topics and applied projects serving sustainable development in major cities and the southern key economic region; and act as a bridge of knowledge and technology between the University of Transport and Communications and the southern provinces and cities.
