MOU Signing Ceremony Between 7 Technical Universities On Cooperation In Technology Transfer And Community Service

On March 31, 2023, in Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh), University of Transport and Communications (UTC) and 6 other Vietnamese technical universities including: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), University of Science and Technology (The University of Danang), Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Thuyloi University signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in technology transfer and community service.

Attending the signing ceremony were Mr. Lam Hai Giang - Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director of Higher Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training), leaders of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, leaders of 7 universities and representatives of departments and branches of Binh Dinh province.

This is the 6th time that UTC and 6 technical universities of Vietnam (group of G7) have signed a memorandum of cooperation. Previously, the G7 group signed: Cooperation to develop engineer training programs (signed in Da Nang in June 2020); comprehensive cooperation in enrollment, training, scientific research and technology transfer, quality assurance and accreditation, communication (signed in Hanoi in January 2021); cooperation in communication (signed in Ho Chi Minh City in April 2021); cooperation in science, technology and innovation (signed in Sapa in September 2022); cooperation in international accreditation and quality assurance (signed in Da Lat in December 2022).

Some of the cooperation contents include:

- Proposing to order inter-disciplinary and inter-university scientific and technological research topics and tasks;

- Establishing groups of interdisciplinary and inter-university experts, setting up experimental projects, transferring scientific and technical advances... Introduce competent organizations, research groups and individuals to participate in science and technology tasks of ministries, branches and localities;

- Building an industrial network, improving technology transfer capacity;

- Sharing international networks, building technology transfer programs from abroad;

- Implement the pilot scheme of policies to create motivation for commercialization, put research results and intellectual property into production and business. Promoting the startup ecosystem, creatively solving problems from businesses and localities.

The Organizing Committee expected this cooperation to promote the strengths of each university and further promote the application and transfer of technology to serve the community, contributing to socio-economic development, adaptation with climate change, preventing and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in the locality, as well as enhancing the role and contribution of intellectuals, scientists, lecturers of the G7 group in innovation, creation, transfer and application of technology to enrich the country.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Lam Hai Giang - Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee assessed that this is a very meaningful cooperation program to fulfill the mission of enhancing the role and contribution of intellectuals, experts and scientists for the development of the country.

Through cooperation in technology transfer and community service of 7 technical universities, Binh Dinh province wishes that this would be the opportunity for universities to continue to pay attention to and support the province in human resource training, scientific research and technology transfer, digital transformation and policy advice, so that the province will have more support in the development process, meeting the requirements of the 4th industrial revolution. Binh Dinh province is committed to always support and be ready to cooperate with universities to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation programs.

Previously, on March 30, 3023, the delegation of 7 technical universities had a meeting with Mr. Ho Quoc Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Binh Dinh Province. .

At the meeting, the representative of the universities’ delegation spoke about the strengths in cooperation in human resource training and scientific research of them and discussed the results of cooperation in human resource training and coordinate in implementing scientific research projects in Binh Dinh province. The universities all expressed their desire to have more detailed discussions with Binh Dinh province on specific needs and proposals; through which will establish joint projects, interdisciplinary cooperation projects in the fields of innovation activities linked with local resources, coordinate in technology transfer to serve the community on the basis of strengths of each university.

 

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Mr. Ho Quoc Dung thanked the technical universities for their interest in supporting the province in many fields over the past time, noting many ideas or suggestions from universities for the province in human resource training and scientific research in service of socio-economic development. Mr. Ho Quoc Dung proposed and recommended to 7 universities on training high-quality human resources for socio-economic development; ; at the same time, proposed and recommend to 7 universities on training high-quality human resources for socio-economic development; scientific research, technology transfer, innovation and digital transformation. 

Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Mr. Ho Quoc Dung assigned the Provincial People's Committee to consider and discuss more specifically with departments and branches to select practical and important issues, prioritizing cooperation with universities in the coming time.

It can be seen that with the close cooperation shown by the memorandum of understanding of the group of 7 leading technical universities in Vietnam, the research results in the universities will have a great opportunity to be transferred to enterprises and localities to put into practice. From there, the products, ideas and experiences of university lecturers will be invested by businesses to commercialize.

With a commitment to technology transfer and community service, the upcoming work of the group of 7 technical universities will be to build a cooperation model with localities, businesses, and technology transfer models to protect the interests of universities and scientists and ensure the development of the cooperation model, so that the universities can accompany businesses and localities.
