Opening of the external assessment of 03 academic programs according to AUN-QA standards

On the morning of December 12, 2023, the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) held the Opening ceremony of the 368th AUN-QA assessment for 03 academic programs.

The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency of the Ministry of Education and Training.

On the side of the AUN-QA assessor team, there was Prof. Dr. Myrna S. Austria - Chief of the assessor team; Prof. Dr. Ornlatcha Sivarak (Lead assessor), Dr. Riza Rahmat (Lead assessor); Prof. Dr. Nina M.Cadiz, Prof. Dr. Rusnadi Padjung, Dr. Corazon L. Abansi (Assessors). The Secretariat includes Ms. Soranee Chuyingsakultip and Mr. Varayut Pukaew.

On the side of UTC, there was Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long - President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong - Party Committee Secretary, Vice President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Long - Chairman of the UTC Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Duc – Vice President; leaders of functional units, officials, lecturers and students of units whose programs are assessed.

In order to carry out its mission of education, scientific research and community service, UTC has continuously strived to improve the quality of activities to meet higher education standards in the region and around the world. Accordingly, quality assurance and quality accreditation are identified as one of the key tasks of the University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency of the Ministry of Education and Training spoke at the event.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Education Quality Management Agency of the Ministry of Education and Training acknowledged the efforts of UTC in quality accreditation, sent good wishes and appreciated the role of the assessor team as well as AUN-QA. The presence of leading experts in the assessed fields  will contribute to perfecting and improving the quality of the academic programs of UTC in particular, as well as the Vietnamese education system in general in the context of international integration in education and training.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long – President of UTC introduced an overview of the University, a summary of the process of joining AUN and the results of evaluating training programs according to AUN-QA standards up to the present time.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long believes that with his experience and professional knowledge, the Assessment Team will help the University improve the quality of education, research and community service activities, to better meet the demands of relevant parties. At the same time, the University also commits that the units whose programs are being evaluated and related units will coordinate and support the Assessment Team to complete the assessment  at UTC.

According to the plan, the assessors will check the evidence of the self-assessment report and work with leaders of the faculties whose programs are assessed; program leaders, self-assessment report writing teams, representatives of relevant parties of 03 programs (student representatives, alumni, lecturers, service staff, employers and businesses) to have a basis for determining the quality of the program according to AUN-QA standards, from there, detect shortcomings and propose solutions to help UTC improve and develop action plans to further improve the quality of human resource training to meet social needs.

Prof. Dr. Myrna S. Austria - Senior Assessor of AUN-QA, Chief of the assessor team spoke at the event.

Representative of the AUN-QA assessor team, Prof. Dr. Myrna S. Austria acknowledged and thanked the University for its positive contributions to the overall activities. AUN and UTC accompany in the journey to achieve the goal of improving the quality of training programs of educational institutions that are AUN-QA members. She also thanked UTC for the trust in AUN-QA and hoped to continue accompanying AUN-QA in the future. “We believe that the assessment opinions and suggestions of the assessor team will help the University improve and further enhance the quality of education and training to continue affirming the reputation and brand of the University, contributing to the general development of education in the region and the world.” she said.
