Seminar “Cold Recycling Technology with Mobile Mixing Plant”

On May 20, the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) collaborated with Wirtgen Group (Germany), Vinh Phu General Joint Stock Corporation (Vitrac) to organize the Seminar on “Cold Recycling Technology with Mobile Mixing Plant”.

Scene of the seminar

The seminar attracted the attention of a large number of scientists, managers, consultants, constructors, and businesses in the field of transportation.

Speaking at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Van Hung – UTC Vice President said: "In the trend of using sustainable, environmentally friendly surface material technologies, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions is increasingly popular in many countries around the world. This rate is about 55% in the US, about 63% in Europe and about 45% in Japan, Korea and China. Sustainable road surface construction will reduce the using of non-renewable resources, saving road surface construction costs, bringing economic, technical and environmental efficiency.

Currently, Vietnam is affirming its commitment at COP26, COP 27 and COP 28 related to sustainable development by implementing solutions in all areas to achieve the goal of "Net Zero Emissions” by 2050. According to the Road Network Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, our country will have about 8,300 km of highways and over 100 million tons of asphalt concrete used. Therefore, researching and applying sustainable, environmentally friendly asphalt pavement material technology solutions in road construction is necessary and topical. The technology of cold scraping and recycling of asphalt concrete pavement structures on site has been successfully researched and applied in Vietnam for more than 10 years.

According to data from the Department for Roads of Vietnam, up to now, more than 210 projects have applied this technology in road surface maintenance and repair. Seminar on cold recycling technology with mobile mixing plants to help management units, consulting units, and construction contractors have more choices in technology solutions for recycling asphalt concrete pavement materials, is also a forum to discuss the field of sustainable asphalt pavement material recycling technology as well as connect researchers from many different countries around the world."

Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Van Hung – UTC Vice President delivered the speech.

In the presentation session, scientists presented papers on the research and application of cold recycled asphalt concrete technology in Vietnam by Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan from University of Transport and Communications; Pavement rehabilitation / upgrading by Recycling the material in the existing pavement by Dr. Dave Collings, Loudon International; Colas Group's experience in cold recycling technology and solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by Mr. Xavier Guyot, Technical Director (Colas Group in Asia-Pacific region); The scope of application of cold recycling asphalt concrete technology on site and at the mixing plant of Mr. Benjamin Gruber, Wirtgen Group...

Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Lan – University of Transport and Communications made a presentation on research and application of cold recycled asphalt concrete technology in Vietnam.

Through the seminar, the University of Transport and Communications wishes to contribute and further promote scientific research activities, coordinate with Wirtgen Group and related units to transfer technology for recycling concrete pavement materials at a mobile mixing plant for road surface maintenance and repair.
