The President of University of Transport and Communications participated in the working delegation of the Minister of Education and Training to visit and work in Japan

On the occasion of the 50th  Anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, from October 10 - 13, 2023, President of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC), Nguyen Ngoc Long, joined the working group of the Ministry of Education and Training led by Minister Nguyen Kim Son, visit and work in Japan. Also on this trip, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long worked with the UTC's partners to promote bilateral cooperation.

Currently, Japan is one of the countries with the largest number of Vietnamese international students living and studying. Links and exchanges in the field of education and training between Vietnam and Japan are established and implemented closely at many levels. At the meeting with the Vietnamese Ambassador in Japan, the Minister expressed his hope that Ambassador Pham Quang Hieu and other officials and employees working at the Embassy of Vietnam in the coming time will continue to support and coordinate to further promote the relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the field of education and training. In particular, two countries will pay attention to expand cooperation in training high school teachers; exchange of students and university lecturers; invite Japanese experts to Vietnam to work and assist in specific projects.

At the meeting with the Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Minister emphasized that over the past 50 years, in the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan, the fields of education and training, science and technology are areas of cooperation that have achieved many results.

The results were achieved thanks to JICA's support through projects such as Human Resource Development Scholarship - granted to Vietnamese civil servants to study postgraduate studies in Japan (JDS); ASEAN Universities Network/ Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net) Project; VJCC's Institutional Capacity Development Project for a milestone in developing and connecting management-level human resources (VJCC); Project of Strengthening cooperation based on science towards sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in the context of climate change; Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) programs; Vietnam - Japan University Project…

In the near future, education and training will still be an important factor in diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Minister expressed his hope that JICA will continue to support Vietnamese universities in connecting and expanding partnerships with Japanese universities.

Also during the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son witnessed the handing over of the cooperation agreement between the President of UTC and the President of Yokohama National University and between the President of UTC and the President of Taisei Rotec Corporation.

In addition to the working program of the Ministry of Education and Training, the President of UTC visited and worked with partners of the University in Japan.

At the meeting with Mr. Hiroaki Kianba - Executive Vice President of Taisei Rotec Corporation and Mr. Kunio Kobayashi - Product development consultant in Vietnam, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long discussed the advantages and difficulties in implementing road scraping and recycling technology directly on site or hot recycling. On the basis of professional exchange, the two sides agreed to invite relevant units in Vietnam to organize a discussion at the University of Transport and Communications to discuss advanced Japanese scraping and recycling technologies in December 2023. Moving forward, JICA is proposed to provide and support joint research projects in Vietnam.

At the meeting with Dr. Tanaka Hiroyuki, General Manager of Construction Products Development Division, Nippon Steel Corporation and his counterparts, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long reviewed outstanding activities in the 20 years of cooperation between the University and the Corporation, along with efforts to introduce new technologies and propose standards for the transportation industry in Vietnam. To recognize the achievements, the two sides agreed to hold a celebration of 20th Anniversary of cooperation and exchange future cooperation directions to meet the trends and requirements of the transportation sector in November 2023 at the University of Transport and Communications.
