UNIVERSITY LEADERSHIP ATTENDS THE 60TH CONFERENCE OF THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CLUB OF TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES AND SIGNS A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING ON COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF RAILWAY MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
On April 10–11, 2025, the leadership of the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) participated in the 60th Conference of the Science and Technology Club of Technical Universities, held in Binh Dinh Province and hosted by Quy Nhon University. The 60th conference, themed “Collaboration in Research, Technology Transfer, and Commercialization of Scientific and Technological Products among Technical Universities”, aimed to strengthen cooperative relationships among universities and research institutes within the Club. The goal was to promote scientific research, technology transfer, product commercialization, innovation, and community service, thereby contributing to the economic, social, security, and defense development of localities and the nation.
The delegation of the University of Transport and Communications attended the conference.
In addition to the presentations by representatives from technical universities within the Club, the Conference also featured speeches by Mr. Do Tien Thinh – Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Hung - Director of Science, Technology and Information Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, leaders from TMA Technology Group, etc., sharing insights on the orientation, determination, and facilitation of state management agencies in developing science and technology in the new era, as well as on the university-industry cooperation model in artificial intelligence education and research.
Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Chuong – Chairman of the University Council, and Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Van Hung – President received congratulatory flowers from the Organizing Committee of the Club.
On the occasion of this conference, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee - Pham Anh Tuan also had a meeting with leaders of member universities in the Club on the afternoon of April 11, 2025, to strengthen connections, exchange ideas, and promote cooperation in research, technology transfer, and high-quality human resource training to serve the local socio-economic development.
A highlight of the conference program was the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between two leading universities of engineering and technology, the University of Transport and Communications and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with the Vietnam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Corporation (VEAMM) - a key enterprise in the mechanical manufacturing sector in Vietnam - on the following contents: training and development of high-quality human resources to meet the needs of the railway industry; scientific research, innovation, and technology development in the field of railway mechanical manufacturing; application and transfer of advanced technology into production, contributing to promoting the development of the railway mechanical industry in Vietnam.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – President affirmed that today's event not only marks the beginning of a promising cooperative relationship between the two technical universities and the enterprise but also underscores the responsibility of higher education institutions in contributing to the construction and development of the transportation industry, especially the railway mechanics sector, to realize the Government's goal of developing the railway industry by 2030-2045.
It can be said that the rapid development of modern railway systems demands a robust railway mechanical industry capable of mastering the production of carriages, locomotives, and the related railway industry ecosystem. Meanwhile, Vietnam still heavily relies on imported technology and equipment, with limited domestic localization capacity, especially for railway lines with a design speed of over 200km/h. This poses an urgent requirement to develop high-quality human resources, invest in research and development, promote innovation, access and decode technology, and build a solid domestic supply chain for the railway mechanical industry. Vietnam needs a synchronized strategy from university training, scientific research, and international cooperation to policies supporting domestic enterprises, aiming to establish a modern railway industry that meets the requirements of sustainable and autonomous development in the future.
It is hoped that the cooperation program among the three parties will develop effective and practical training programs, schemes, and research projects, moving towards decoding strategic technologies and commercializing research products, thereby making a positive contribution to the development of the national railway industry.
