Announcement Ceremony: Decision on the Appointment of the President of the University of Transport and Communications for the 2020–2025 Term

On December 18, 2024, the University of Transport and Communications solemnly held the Ceremony to Announce the Decision on Recognizing the President of the University for the 2020–2025 term.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son presented the decision on appointing Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hung as the President of the University of Transport and Communications for the 2020–2025 term

Attending the ceremony, on behalf of the guests, were Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung, representatives from various agencies and enterprises partnering with the University, and media outlets covering the event.

On the university’s side, participants included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong – Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Duc – Vice President, former university leaders, as well as all staff and employees of the University of Transport and Communications.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son, on behalf of the Ministry, extended congratulations to the faculty, staff, students, and especially to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – the newly appointed President. The Deputy Minister stated:

“Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung has been a long-serving academic, rigorously trained and matured at the University of Transport and Communications. He has held various management positions within the university. I firmly believe that, as President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung will quickly leverage his knowledge and experience, work with the Party Committee, the University Council, the Board of Directors, and the entire university community to foster solidarity and continue building UTC into a stronger, more accomplished institution. I believe UTC will achieve even greater success, firmly establishing its reputation for quality education and its position within Vietnam's higher education system and society.”

According to Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son, the University of Transport and Communications (UTC) is one of Vietnam's universities with a strong tradition, reputation, and high quality in education and scientific research in the field of transportation. Over nearly 80 years of construction and development, the university has consistently upheld its tradition of solidarity, strictly adhered to the Party's policies, principles, and educational guidelines, and has been a model leader in implementing innovation, improving the quality of education and scientific research, effectively meeting societal needs, and advancing international integration.

Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son noted that rapid advancements in science, technology, and international integration, coupled with changes in the global political landscape, require stakeholders to adopt flexible and appropriate measures. In this context, universities must proactively adapt to labor market trends, adjust their development strategies, refine organizational structures, build a capable workforce, restructure training programs, and address numerous other tasks. The Deputy Minister urged the University of Transport and Communications to take the lead in education and scientific research, prepare high-quality human resources, and master technology to serve the country's major programs and development plans in this era of national resurgence. 

"The President plays a crucial role in the development of a university. The President is responsible for organizing the implementation of professional, academic, organizational, personnel, financial, and property activities, as well as domestic and international cooperation and other functions, as stipulated by law, the regulations governing higher education institutions, and the decisions of the university council. As both a manager and an inspirational leader, the President not only determines the methods and strategies for executing tasks and building an advanced academic environment but also serves as a driving force for innovation and enhancing the quality of education and research. The President's vision and leadership are crucial in mobilizing and connecting resources, establishing a solid foundation for the university’s sustainable development.", the Deputy Minister emphasized.

At the ceremony, the Deputy Minister acknowledged and commended the significant contributions of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, the former President, to the university and higher education. He expressed hope that Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long would continue contributing his wisdom and experience to the university and the sector.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training leadership, the Deputy Minister also acknowledged and commended the outstanding contributions of People's Teacher, Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long, former President, to the University of Transport and Communications in particular and to the field of higher education in general over the years.

In the coming time, with his extensive experience, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son hopes and believes that Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long will continue to contribute his intellect and expertise to the development of the University and the sector.

Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung – President of the University, expressed:

"This solemn ceremony marks over 34 years of my journey studying and working at the shared home of the University of Transport and Communications, alongside countless generations of teachers, colleagues, students, and alumni. The journey’s filled with memories imbued with humanity, the bonds between teachers and students, and camaraderie. As a lecturer and now as the President of the university, I will continue to uphold the proud traditions of this institution: a place where succeeding generations build upon and develop the solid foundation left by their predecessors with gratitude and pride.

Together with the university's leadership team, I am committed to working with teachers, staff, and students to build a university that is forward-looking and innovative. We pledge to foster a dynamic educational environment where every individual can find opportunities to fully realize their potential, intellect, and passion for their profession.

The challenges facing the University of Transport and Communications in this new era are indeed difficult, but they are also filled with excitement and pride. These tasks cannot be accomplished through my individual efforts or those of the university leadership team alone. We hope to earn the trust, support, and collaboration of all teachers, staff, and generations of students at the university."

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong – Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, expressed gratitude to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long for his contributions to the university and congratulated Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung. He expressed confidence that, in his new position, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Hung would continue to leverage his experience and capabilities to contribute to the university’s development.
