On March 20, 2024, the University of Transport and Communications solemnly held the 62nd  Anniversary of the University's establishment (1962-2024).

In a speech celebrating the 62nd Anniversary of the University's establishment, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long - President summarizes the university's development journey. "The University of Transport and Communications, formerly known as the Indochina School of Public Works, was founded in 1902, and is one of the first high-level training schools established in Indochina. Although it was established under the French protectorate, in this school, many great Vietnamese engineers, culturalists, and revolutionaries have studied, grown up, nurtured patriotism, and revolutionary spirit, becoming famous teachers, culturalists, and engineers, made great contributions to the economic development of the country and the national revolutionary cause.

Indochina School of Public Works, with its rich training and proud patriotic tradition, is also one of the first universities and colleges reopened by President Ho Chi Minh on November 15, 1945 under revolutionary government, with the task of training officials for the transportation, irrigation and postal sectors under the revolutionary government.

During the process of building and growing up, the university's staff, lecturers, and students have always steadfastly followed the Party's revolutionary path, following the call of the great President Ho Chi Minh; Each generation, the previous class and the next class, contribute their intelligence, blood, and effort to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland.

During the resistance war against the French until peace was restored in the North, in difficult, arduous, and deprived conditions, lecturers and students of the university always actively participated in serving the resistance, while also performing their training duties. In 1960, the Ministry of Transport promoted the establishment of the University of Transport and Communications Construction Committee; In December 1960, the first undergraduate cohort of the university was opened with 117 students.

In response to the new requirements and tasks of the country and the transport sector, on March 24, 1962, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 42/CP to establish the University of Transport and Communications. Since then, March 24, 1962 has been officially determined as the establishment date of the University of Transport and Communications, marking an important turning point in the university's history.

The university has gradually overcome difficulties and challenges, becoming a reliable address for training and scientific research in the field of transportation and other economic sectors, making an important contribution to the career of the protection of the country.

After more than 120 years of foundation and development, including 62 years of establishment of the University, the University has trained tens of thousands of engineers, bachelors, thousands of masters and doctors. Many of them have become key technical staff; good lecturers and scientists; dynamic, creative and successful managers in their positions. Recognizing the outstanding contributions of the University, The Party, State, National Assembly and Government have awarded the University many noble orders and medals.

Since 2021, the University of Transport and Communications has built and completed the University's development strategy for the period 2021-2030, defining the University's mission as "training, scientific research, and high-quality technology transfer according to trend of integration and social responsibility to promote sustainable development of the transportation industry and the country". The university determines its vision to 2030 "Becoming a research-oriented multidisciplinary university, affirming Vietnam's leading position in the field of transportation, with prestige and quality on par with Asia" . To realize this vision, in the period from 2021 to present, the University of Transport and Communications has synchronously implemented many solutions to improve and achieve very solid progress in terms of training, scientific research and serve the community…

With the fine and glorious tradition of 62 years of building the University, with determination and a spirit of creative solidarity; Under the Party's leadership, with the help of relevant agencies, domestic and international friends, and the joint efforts and consensus of the university's staff and employees, we believe that the University of Transport and Communications will continue to strive to successfully complete the set goals, continue to maintain its role as a leading technical university, and become a bright spot in education and research at the university level in the country".

A joy and pride coming to the University is lecturer, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Hoc - former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Youth and Children's Education, former Secretary of the Party Committee, former President of the University of Transport and Communications was honored to be awarded the 3rd Class Independence Medal by the Party, State and National Assembly for his contributions and dedication to the cause of education and training of the University and the country.
