Conference to deploy the work in 2024 of the Executive Board of the alumni network of the University of Transport and Communications

On February 17, in Ha Giang City, the Executive Board of the University of Transport and Communications’ alumni network held a conference to deploy work in 2024.

Overview of the Conference

Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Planning and Investment, Chairman of the Executive Board of the alumni network; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long - President of University of Transport and Communications; Mr. Nguyen Danh Huy - Deputy Minister of Transport; Mr. Le Dinh Tho - former Deputy Minister of Transport; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Chuong - Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice President of the University of Transport and Communications co-chaired the conference.

Attending the conference were leaders of the Provincial People's Committees of several provinces and cities and alumni of the University of Transport and Communications. From the leaders of Ha Giang province, there were Mrs. Ha Thi Minh Hanh - Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of Department of Transport.

The conference announced the Decisions of the University of Transport and Communications on the establishment of the Alumni Liaison Committee of the University in localities; Report on the University's activities and the alumni network. Accordingly, implementing the conclusion of Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung - Chairman of the Committee of the alumni network at the meeting of the Alumni Committee on October 18, 2023, the Committee of the alumni network has been completed and implemented a number of important tasks: Establishing the Office of the Executive Board of Alumni Network and having its own operating office with 01 office manager and 3 administrative staffs; promulgating the Regulations on organization and operation of the UTC alumni network; established the University Alumni Liaison Committee in 18 localities: Ho Chi Minh City; Quang Ngai; Ninh Thuan; Binh Duong; Binh Phuoc; Gia Lai; Lam Dong; Long An; Ben tre; Quang Tri; Quang Binh; Ninh Binh; Cao Bang; Bac Kan; Lao Cai; Ha Giang and 3 Alumni Liaison Committees according to majors: Economics-Transport; Telecommunications engineering; Control and automation engineering.

The Alumni Network Executive Board and local liaison committees have built the Traditional Scholarship Fund for the UTC’s students. Together with officials, employees, and workers in the University, they contributed to build the sovereignty flagpole on Co To Island; the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Fund launched by the Central Red Cross Society; Organizing career counseling and recruitment activities for students in their final year; Organizing meetings for alumni of cohort 8 and 9 at UTC, etc.

At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and contributing many ideas to develop the University's alumni network such as: Continuing to develop the Liaison Committee system at localities, ministries and departments; Promoting the role as a bridge between generations of alumni and former students; Continuing to foster and develop the Traditional Scholarship Fund for Vietnamese Transportation Students; Expanding and building a Fund to sponsor students in difficult circumstances while studying at the University so that they can feel secure in studying, establishing themselves, and starting a career; Creating conditions to support innovative start-up activities, aiming to build a Center for incubation and promotion of innovative start-ups.

Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung requested the Executive Board and the Liaison Committee of localities to review specific work and give advice to the UTC  on education; In particular, it is necessary to focus on scientific research, innovation and creativity; Stick to new trends, new policies, new developments, such as digital transformation, green growth, emission reduction... to develop the transportation industry in association with the activities of ministries and branches; Do a good job of promoting talent, mastering technology, mastering equipment, receiving and transferring technology; Continue to support students in difficult circumstances and especially give priority to excellent students, giving scholarships to train abroad so that in the future there will be excellent talents and leading experts in the transportation sector. The Board of Directors needs to define roles and responsibilities for the network to operate effectively and meaningfully, promote the University traditions, and clearly define what it can do and what it can contribute to the country and the transport sector to sustainable national development.
