"Innovative Construction 2023" Competition

On December 10, 2023, the "Innovative Construction 2023" Competition took place, organized by the Student Association of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Transport and Communications (UTC).

In addition to the teams from UTC, there was also the participation of teams from the Thuyloi University and the University of Technology - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The program is accompanied by sponsors Thang Long Mechanical Construction Corporation and SPT Home Architecture and Construction limited liability company.

Structural model building

Innovative Construction is a competition that combines learning with entertainment, helping students apply the knowledge they have been taught into practice.

The competition's topic proposed by the Organizing Committee is that with 200 bamboo sticks, 5 bottles of glue and 15m of parachute cord in 3.5 hours, competing teams will create a structure with a minimum length of 800mm with a horizontal surface representing the driveway. To ensure that the structure can best bear the load, it requires calculation and creativity of students.

After completion, the teams will present their structural ideas, implementation methods, and tie the load ropes. This is also the most attractive content of the contest. Teams will stack weights at the center of cross section until the product is destroyed.

Presentation of structure ideas

At this year's competition, there were many structures that made the judges and audience feel surprised and excited in the loading. With the calculation and creativity of the competing teams, there was a structure that could withstand a load of up to 99kg. Although the structure looked fragile, it could handle the load beyond expectations. Many structures with different shapes were brought by students to this year's competition.

Loading contest - the most attractive content of the competition

As a highly academic competition of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Innovative Construction not only brings many connections between engineering faculties at UTC but also spreads the competition to technical universities with related fields.

After a day of exciting competition, the jury found the winners of the Innovative Construction 2023 awards.
