Within the framework of the “Research Project on the Situation of Scientific Research and Innovation in ACMECS Countries (Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy): Experiences and knowledge from higher education institutions" of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO RIHED), in the morning of August 2, 2022, the University of Transport and Communications had a meeting and worked with Mr. Vo Tran Trung Nhan - representative of SEAMEO RIHED.

With the goal of supporting the building of a sustainable research system for educational institutions in ACMECS member countries, including: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam; SEAMEO RIHED sent a representative to Vietnam to understand the research ecosystem at the base level and the institution of each country, through in-depth research, interviews with university leaders and policy-makers in each country.

From the University side, attending the meeting and working with the representative of SEAMEO RIHED were the President - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long and leaders of the Department of International Cooperation and Development Studies, Department of Science and Technology. The President shared with the representative of SEAMEO RIHED about the University's development strategy, the university's science and technology development policies in the past and in the future, emphasizing the role of leadership, governance, and building major research directions, promoting development cooperation. As one of four Vietnamese educational institutions selected by SEAMEO RIHED to participate in the project, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long expressed the University's interest in activities sponsored by the Thai Government and DAAD in the period of 2022-2025. The University of Transport and Communications is ready to host as the main unit to receive and organize the activities with researchers from participating countries.

On behalf of SEAMEO RIHED, Mr. Vo Tran Trung Nhan thanked Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Long about the profound sharing from the perspective to the development of science and technology of the University of Transport and Communications and conveyed the organization's invitation to the President about the appointment of managers and researchers to participate in the project since September 2022.

After the official meeting, the representative of SEAMEO RIHED visited the university's facilities for research and expressed confidence in the ability of the University of Transport and Communications to meet the requirements of being the chair of the research activities within the project.
