Participation of University of Transport and Communications in the World University Rankings (Quacquarelli Symonds – QS)

According to the announcement of the Quacquarelli Symonds - QS organization on November 8, 2023 on the ranking of universities in Asia in 2024, among 857 higher education institutions ranked this time, there are 15 universities of Vietnam.

Among four universities ranked for the first time, including Nguyen Tat Thanh University, HCMC University of Technology and Education, University of Transport and Communications (UTC) and Van Lang University, UTC ranked 107th among universities in Southeast Asia and is on the list of the top 650 universities in Asia.

Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS World University Rankings) is one of the most prestigious and influential rankings in the world for university rankings. The assessment of the institutions is done objectively through 11 indicators. Among them, the opinions of scholars and employers have the highest weight, 30% and 20% respectively. The remaining are the ratio of lecturers/students (10%), the ratio of lecturers with doctoral degrees (5%), the number of scientific articles/lecturer (5%), the ratio of citations/faculty articles academics (10%), international research network (10%), international faculty ratio (2.5%), international student ratio (2.5%).

Vietnam's higher education institutions are ranked in the QS World University Rankings

​Participating in the 2024 QS World University Rankings in Asia is a step in implementing the general plan of the University of Transport and Communications to realize the goal of becoming a multi-disciplinary university research oriented, asserting its leading role in Vietnamese transportation with reputation and quality of Asian standards.

To best prepare for participating in this ranking, from 2021, UTC has proactively developed an internal assessment plan for the UTC's development indicators, while implementing policies to encourage publication and cooperation in science, publicize its research and training results in English on the university's website and international scientific databases..

The positive steps of the University of Transport and Communications in the past period have been highly appreciated by the academic community and employers. In addition to the sharp increase in scientific citation scores (reaching 19.8 points), the assessment results on the level of "reputation in the academic community" and the level of "reputation with employers" were surveyed by the QS organization. Monitoring and analysis through feedback from 2.1 million scholars and 617,000 votes from employers around the world are also bright spots. In these criteria, the University of Transport and Communications achieved scores of 10.8 and 6.7 respectively – a very high index when compared to other technical universities in Vietnam.

Participating in the QS World University Ranking continues to be a responsible step for UTC in receiving evaluation opinions about the University from reputable university evaluation and ranking organizations. The results of this analysis are the basis for UTC to adjust and perfect teaching and learning conditions according to international standards, continue to improve the quality of training, scientific research and serve the community, moving forward steadily on the path to becoming a research-oriented university on par with Asia.
